Situation
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) was in preparedness mode. Due to its aging UPS battery backup systems, Cal Fire had been experiencing some random failures and was taking a proactive approach to fix problems at 43 stations throughout the state before the fire season was underway.
Solution
SacPower was referred as part of a team hired to perform a statewide refresh of Cal Fire’s UPS systems. First aligning multiple teams with Cal Fire district managers in order to accelerate the 43 site assessments, SacPower then created a detailed equipment list and timetable to remove the worn-out UPS units and install new upgraded systems at every site. Installation included the UPS itself, configuration of the network management card IP settings, testing in all operational modes, and deployment & configuration of APC StruxureWare remote monitoring.
Result
Up-front evaluation of space and power restrictions enabled a smooth process across all 43 sites. SacPower’s ability to coordinate with district managers, to collaborate with other vendors, and deft deployment of assessment and installation teams ensured reliable communication before California’s critical fire season began. Remote monitoring supports complete outsourcing of UPS support to SacPower.
